Strength and Conditioning

At Rehab Train Perform (RTP) we offer a generally bespoke, evidence-based and adaptation lead programme to all clients.

We consult with you to understand what you would like to achieve and educate you on what services you need to achieve this. It’s never a one size fits all approach.

Our philosophy is to take our athletes along a performance pathway from injury rehabilitation to strength and conditioning to achieve a new higher performance level having constant continuity as you progress through with your coach.

Anyone that has completed rehabilitation of a long-term injury will say it wasn’t easy and it wasn’t straightforward, you have your better days when you feel you can take on any challenge head-on and then days when everything feels like a real struggle. We understand this and always have session adaptations to hand.

For example, if you book your first Strength and Conditioning block to improve your sprinting performance as you’ve signed up for a football academy and 5 sessions in, you walk in after an ankle sprain in training, the programme and goals adapt to the necessary treatment needed.

Our services are ideal for:

Injured athletes of all sporting levels including ACL injuries, athletes with a set goal/challenge e.g. marathon, amateur and professional golfers and anyone wanting to enhance their health and performance.

RTP Performance Pathway

At RTP you pay for what you require not for what you needed 6 weeks ago or for what you heard your friend said you need. As Sport Rehabilitation and Strength and Conditioning sessions cost the same they are interchangeable with each other guaranteeing you the most relevant training session.

This is the RTP Performance Pathway, all new athletes receive a FREE 30 minute taster session to experience a flavour of what their upcoming sessions will look like. This gives you a chance to see the private gym spaces and to meet coach Ed. During this session a brief medical history is taken and any red flag concerns are cleared.

Athlete Consultation

The athlete consultation is a detailed assessment of the current status of the athlete. regarding injuries and performance status.

This applies to both rehabilitation and Strength and Conditioning clients, a subjective discussion is had to talk through past medical history, mechanism of injuries, training history etc whilst objective data is collected for range of motion, strength measures and functional movement patterns.

Now Ed has a clear picture of how he can help the main training sessions start, for our rehab athletes that may be in pain we often start with passive treatments like sports massage, cryotherapy and joint mobilizations to reduce this pain as quickly as possible.

Once this is achieved detailed performance testing is implemented to create your performance baseline, active strength training contributes a large portion of the rehabilitation process as this has been proven to help overcome and keep injuries away.

Re-assessments are an opportunity to highlight progress that may not always seem obvious to see day to day and to reflect on how we’ve come along the pathway.

Pain Free Movement

Once a client has achieved pain-free movement in various positions the focus shifts towards improving performance and future injury prevention with original injury considerations still impacting exercise selection.

This is a key factor that makes Rehab Train Perform different to others, we help you overcome your pain and injury and instead of leaving you there we build robustness and tissue tolerance to prevent that injury from reoccurring.

After all, prevention is always the best form of treatment.

During this phase there is an increased specificity to the athlete’s sport/needs through physical preparation, extra lifting techniques are mastered to achieve the highest performance impact and cardiorespiratory strategies are implemented in the form of interval training or steady-state capacity building.

This is then cycled through variations to keep you motivated and entertained and new adaptations achieved.

Performance Testing

Performance Testing is a crucial part of the RTP performance pathway, this gives you clear, fast objective data showing your physical metrics and how they’ve progressed over training blocks. We use the Vald Performance Forcedecks to analyse jump metrics, isometric strength metrics, isolated joint strength, rate of force development, limb asymmetries, movement pattern variations, relative strength and many more. All this data is crucial for the rehabilitation and performance process as it highlights areas for improvement and can be displayed in an easy-to-follow one-page report.

Benefits of training sessions

The benefits of training with RTP are individual to the athletes needs, whether this be an increased knee range of movement to aid with walking after ACL surgery or increased clubhead speed for golf to boom it off the tee past your mates.

Ed always focuses on the needs of the athlete in front of them using an adaptation lead approach to programming exercises with a scientific rationale for their use.

As well as this, common benefits include increased strength to tolerate common activities, reduced injury risk as a result of this new strength level, increased cross-sectional area of muscle plus clarity on how training can influence sporting performance.
